Release schedule
When will the next Ceph release come out, and how long is each release supported?
Ceph aims to publish a point release of each stable release every 8 weeks, and maintains two stable major releases at a time. When a new major release goes GA, the oldest major gets one more point release and then reaches end of life.
The dates below are estimates, not commitments. Where the release manager has published planned dates on the Ceph community calendar, those are shown. Otherwise the dates are derived from where each release is in the release process and from how long each stage has taken historically. Estimates updated Oct 29, 2026.
These estimates are generated daily by a script that was written with the help of an LLM. They are not reviewed by the release team; see the sources below.

The estimates are produced by release-eta.py in the ceph/release-eta repository, which reads:
- Release tags (vX.Y.Z) and release branches in ceph/ceph: when a point release was frozen for QA, tagged, or a major release entered release candidates
- GitHub milestones for each upcoming version: how many backports are merged
- Release-notes pull requests in ceph/ceph.io: opened when a release enters QA, merged when it is announced
- doc/releases/releases.yml: past release and end-of-life dates
- tracker.ceph.com versions and release kickoff pull requests: the next major release's name and planned kickoff
- The Ceph community calendar: the release manager's planned branch and release dates, and backport merge windows
Each release above lists the specific evidence and links behind its estimate under "How this was estimated".
Release history and notes for every version are in the Ceph documentation.
